BIODIVERSITY

CULTURAL AND NATURAL AREAS IN OUR VICINITY

The olive tree is renowned for its numerous beneficial properties and is referred to as the “immortal tree” in mythology. In Kazıklı Neighborhood of Milas district in Muğla, you can visit several monumental olive trees, including the "Ata Ağaç" (Ancestor Tree), which has been determined to be 3,200 years old, as well as others that are 2,000 and 1,800 years old. These ancient trees are located approximately 10 km from our hotel.

Lake Bafa and its surrounding area serve as an important breeding and wintering ground for waterbirds. Species such as the Eurasian coot (Fulica atra) and the common pochard (Aythya ferina) winter at Lake Bafa. Other important bird species that nest in the area include the black-crowned night heron (Nycticorax nycticorax), the little egret (Egretta garzetta), the spur-winged lapwing (Vanellus spinosus), and the purple heron (Ardea purpurea). Additionally, it is known that a pair of white-tailed eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla) continues to breed in the region.

OUR MAIN APPLICATIONS

OUR SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES IN FOOD & BEVERAGE
At Maxeria Blue Didyma Hotel, we implement a wide range of sustainable practices, especially in our food and beverage operations. We prioritize the use of local and seasonal ingredients in our menus and are constantly striving to improve in areas such as zero waste, energy efficiency, and water conservation.

• Bread Repurposing: Leftover bread is turned into croutons served with soups or processed into breadcrumbs for cooking.
• We make jams from orange, lemon, melon, and watermelon peels. These are used in the pastry section (for tarts and cakes) and in the cold kitchen (in mezes and antipasti presentations).
• Instead of being discarded, tomato peels are used in the hot kitchen to prepare sauces like Neapolitan, chili, salsa, and arrabbiata
• Peels from tomatoes, onions, carrots, potatoes, garlic, zucchini, and celery are turned into vegetable seasoning.

All leftover food from buffets and plates is sorted and sent to the pet food production facility of the Didim Street Animals Shelter.
• Cultural Nights: Every Friday, our main restaurant hosts “Turkish Night,” where we present traditional Turkish delicacies to our guests.
• Local Products: Our open buffet features local products from Didim and the Aegean region.
• Eliminating Single-Use Items: To support sustainability and reduce environmental impact, we have removed disposable cups and straws in our bars, replacing them with washable polycarbonate alternatives.
• Reducing Waste in Restaurants: Instead of offering single-use salt packets, we use reusable salt and pepper shakers on all tables in our restaurants.

TEA WASTE RECYCLING

As an environmentally conscious hotel, Maxeria Blue Didyma Hotel places great importance on environmental protection projects. One of our key initiatives is encouraging the use of compost made from used tea waste, supporting sustainability in tea consumption across the property.

Compost produced from tea waste helps reduce the use of chemical fertilizers, thereby preventing the release of harmful substances into the environment. As a result, soil quality improves in tea gardens, and plants grow healthier and yield higher-quality produce.

Benefits of Using Tea Waste Compost in Soil:
• Helps retain soil moisture and increases oxygen levels.
• Supports the development and reproduction of earthworms.
• Provides essential nutrients for healthy plant growth, recovery, and development.
• Helps in disease prevention and plant resilience.
• Serves as an economical and natural fertilizer.
• Binds potential heavy metals in the soil.
• Aids in the control of unwanted weeds.
• Reduces methane emissions—a greenhouse gas 24 times more potent than carbon dioxide.

EGGSHELL RECYCLING

At Maxeria Blue Didyma Hotel, we show great sensitivity when it comes to protecting nature and promoting sustainability. That’s why, instead of throwing away the eggshells used in our daily operations, we recycle them. Eggshells are rich in minerals such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium, and when used as fertilizer, they offer countless benefits to the soil. By enriching the soil, eggshells help plants grow stronger and healthier.

In addition to recycling eggshells, we also return organic waste to the soil to further strengthen our garden's ecosystem.

How We Use Eggshells:
• Eggshells from daily kitchen use are collected in a container.
• These containers are handed over to the head gardener.
• The gardener crushes the eggshells into small pieces.
• The crushed shells are mixed with soil and compost, then added to planting areas to enrich the soil for gardening.

As Maxeria Blue Didyma Hotel, we will continue to take an environmentally responsible approach and do our best to protect nature.

OUR ENERGY USAGE PROJECTS

Maxeria Blue Didyma Hotel stands out as a facility that places great importance on the principles of sustainability. Our sustainability practices are designed to minimize environmental impact and preserve natural resources.

To ensure energy efficiency, we utilize modern technologies throughout the hotel. From lighting systems to climate control, every aspect is managed with energy conservation in mind. We also take a sensitive approach to waste management by actively implementing recycling and waste reduction programs.

Our Electricity Saving Practices:
• All exterior lighting, heating, and cooling systems around the building are managed via automated control systems.
• All guest rooms are equipped with an Energy Saver Card System.
• When guests leave their rooms and take their key cards with them, the lights are automatically turned off.
• All electrical devices undergo planned annual maintenance and cleaning to minimize potential energy loss.
• Where possible, motion-sensor automatic doors are used to reduce unnecessary heating/cooling loss and save energy.
• Heating and cooling devices are strategically positioned to maximize energy efficiency.

OUR WATER USAGE PROJECTS

At Maxeria Blue Didyma Hotel, we place great importance on sustainable practices related to water conservation. With a deep appreciation for the value of water, we adopt an environmentally and economically sustainable approach throughout our operations.

Our Water Saving Practices:
• To prevent unnecessary water usage, we use low-flow special faucets and showerheads, as well as sensor-activated or timer-controlled faucets, showers, and urinals.
• Low-volume toilet cisterns are used to reduce water consumption during flushing.
• Our staff is trained to detect and prevent leaks from toilet tanks in guest rooms, and we kindly ask our guests to report any such issues to us.
• Our eco-friendly garden is irrigated using drip and sprinkler systems.
• Towel and linen changes in guest rooms are carried out based on guest requests. In the absence of specific requests, replacements are made every two days. Guests are also informed about this practice.
• In our kitchen, we use an ozone disinfection system for washing fruits and vegetables, which eliminates the need for a final rinse and helps save water.

OUR PROJECTS ON CHEMICAL USAGE

At Maxeria Blue Didyma Hotel, we pay close attention to sustainability practices concerning chemical use. Our focus is on using chemicals consciously to protect both the health of our guests and the natural environment. In selecting cleaning products, we prioritize eco-friendly and human-safe alternatives.

Our Practices in Chemical Usage:
• We monitor daily chemical consumption to minimize usage.
• In room cleaning, concentrated products are used with dosing systems to control and reduce the amount of chemicals applied.
• To limit waste, we are increasing the use of refillable liquid shampoo and soap instead of single-use items in guest rooms.
• We aim to reduce both the number of guest room amenities and the packaging waste generated from these items.
• Our swimming pools are maintained using an automatic chemical dosing system to ensure hygienic standards are met safely and efficiently.
• We ensure that the pest control company we work with uses products that are safe for both human health and the environment.
• For the safe disposal of chemicals, we work with authorized companies and track all chemical waste to ensure proper handling and compliance.

.

OUR RECYCLING PROJECTS

Recycling is defined as the process of reusing a product without wasting resources or polluting the environment. Recyclable materials can be repurposed and reused, which helps preserve natural resources and saves energy by reducing waste. For this reason, the use of recycled materials plays a significant role in our sustainability efforts.

Our Recycling Practices:*
• We separate recyclable materials such as paper, cardboard, plastic, and metal packaging and deliver them to authorized recycling organizations.
• Broken reading lamps, hair dryers, and umbrellas damaged by wind are repaired and reused, reducing the volume of waste generated.
• Wood from damaged gazebos on our beach is repurposed to create walking paths in grassy areas and to construct changing cabins by the shore.
• Instead of discarding torn and worn bed linens, our tailor transforms them into pillowcases and baby sheets.
• Towels with frayed edges are overlocked and reused.
• Malfunctioning electronics such as kettles and bathroom scales are repaired and reused. If they can no longer be used, they are handed over to authorized disposal facilities.

Through these practices, Maxeria Blue Didyma Hotel continues to support a sustainable future by promoting mindful recycling and responsible resource management.
